Congratulations goes out to Kumiko Asakura, a second-year Ryukoku University student who took first place in the Ryukoku ESS speech contest today at the Fukakusa Campus. She gave an excellent speech about using 'local currency' to encourage people to volunteer by helping each other. In this way, the community can become closer and the bonds of love and friendship between people can grow stronger. Such a 'local currency' system has already been implemented in Kusatsu, called Oumi. Actually, there are about 2,500 such systems already in place in communities all over the world. The currency used is commonly called eco-money or
warm money. Have you ever taken part in a system of local currency like this? If not, do you think it's a good idea?
